Love
The theme of love and the importance of love in a Christian's relationship with God and with fellow Christians is one theme that is repeated throughout Chan's book. Chan suggests to his readers that they should have a love for God that comes not from what God has given them or can give them, but simply for who He is. Chan suggests we should love God the way God loves us. Although we as frail, easily killed humans are unable to do anything in the larger scheme of things to benefit God that he could not already do for Himself if He so desired, God still loves us with a love that Chan refers to as "crazy."
