God could be said to be the main character of this novel. It is Chan's intention to help his reader develop a closer and deeper relationship with God. Those who believe in Christian religions believe that God created the Earth and universe as well as human beings. God's son, Jesus, was sent to Earth to die for the people's sins. Chan indicates that it is God's desire that people on Earth live their lives as Jesus lived his life. Chan's idea is that people should try to seek God's will for their life. Chan argues that God has a plan for each person to serve a purpose in the world. However, at the same time, people should realize that the only reason that they are on Earth is to serve God and do His will. Their life is about God and not about themselves.
