Chapter Four Summary and Analysis
In this chapter, Chan first includes a summary of a parable in the Bible that he says describes the appropriate response to God's love. The main character of this parable is a man, representing all men, who discovers that a great treasure, which represents God's love, is buried in a field. The man sells all that he has in order to buy this field. Chan says this giving of everything in order to get and keep God's love is the way that all men should react when they learn about the availability and presence of God's love.
Chan goes on to say that most people, however, have inappropriate responses to God's offer of love. He uses Jesus' parable of seeds and different types of soils to describe what different things can distract people from God. Things that distract people...
