Chapters 14-17 Summary
In chapter 14, Ballard looks through the questionnaires and finds himself drawn to questions that reflect sexual attitudes of the crash survivors. Especially interesting to Ballard is questions about the celebrities these survivors would like to see in a crash and the type of injuries they would be interested in seeing inflicted. Many of the injuries the respondents choose are sexual injuries. Included with the questionnaires, Ballard finds pictures of celebrities who have died in car accidents as well as pictures of Elizabeth Taylor. In chapter 15, Vaughan picks up a couple of prostitutes and gives Ballard the keys to the car. Vaughan begins making love to one of the prostitutes while Ballard drives through the city, changing his technique and movements to the way Ballard is driving.
