Point of View

The novel, Counterfeit, is written from both a first person and a third person limited point of view. In Part 1, the narrative is told exclusively through the lens of Ava Wong as she recounts her involvement with Winnie Fang to a detective. She divulges her frustrations with her college roommate, desire to escape the criminal plot, and remorse for illegally selling designer handbags. The author chooses to use this point of view throughout the first half of the narrative, in order to establish Ava’s narrative, that she presents to the police and her family. The reader, like the detective, believes that Ava is telling the truth, unaware of the hidden motives behind her confession.
