Ava Wong
Ava Wong is the first-person narrator and protagonist in Counterfeit. At the outset of the narrative, she explains to the detective that she had not spoken to Winnie, her college roommate, in years, before she contacted her about the transplant for Boss Mak. Ava was on maternity leave, when they met up, reluctant to go back to work but struggling to come to terms with her identity outside of her career. Her entire life she strove to be a straight A student, always wanting to place first, get the best job, marry the best husband, and have the perfect children. While she had managed to achieve all of these things, her relationship with Oli was strained, she felt ungratified in her work as a lawyer, and her child was inconsolable and bratty. When Winnie reentered her life, she felt vulnerable and then desperate when Oli cut off...
