Summary
In Chapter 5, Ava waited until the cancellation window was closed to tell Oli about her trip. Her husband was incensed that she would plan a trip without consulting him and begged her to postpone until they could travel as a family. When Ava would not budge on her resolve, he snidely said, “We both know you won’t even survive the flight out” (52). When Ava landed in Hong Kong, she had multiple texts from Winnie, only in retrospect did Ava consider that Winnie was monitoring her social media. At dinner that evening, Ava insisted on paying for the meal, but the waiter returned and announced that her card had been declined. When she returned to the flat, Ava called the bank.
