Banning is staying in Pickering's suite at the Menzies Hotel. Pickering gives him a check for $250,000 for the expenses of his operation and will begin to introduce him to people involved with the Coastwatchers. They decide to lodge the rest of the group at Pickering's rented house in Melbourne when they arrive and then to rent a house in Townesville where the Coastwatchers are headquartered.
Pickering writes Knox asking him to get the higher priorities for the balance of Banning's group, who are still in Hawaii awaiting transport. He has forbidden Banning to go behind enemy lines himself because he knows about Albatross.
