pgs. 69-104 Summary
Koffler's family isn't home so he enters the apartment through a window. He tries calling friends but they aren't home so he goes downstairs to the neighbors apartment. Steve has a drink with them and then leaves and goes to a bar where he meets the neighbor's daughter and her date. After a few drinks, he feels the intoxication and goes home. The neighbors daughter, Dianne calls and Steve invites her up to the apartment. She arrives wearing a bathrobe and carrying a bottle of scotch. After this, she avoids him for the rest of his visit.
Pickering's headquarters are located in San Francisco. His father and Andrew Foster, who owned the Forrest Hotels, had pulled out of the stock market before the crash and bought various properties during the Depression.
