Summary, pg. 1-34 Summary
The attack on Pearl Harbor began from the Japanese Carrier Task Force three hundred miles to the north. The attack began at 0755 hours with the other groups attacking afterward. The attack was successful. Most of the United States Pacific feet was destroyed and the United States entered World War II.
Joe Howard is a Marine who was asleep when the attack began. He won a civilian shooting contest and was given the award by Major General Commandant Holcomb, the son of the commandant of the Marine Corps. His name was noted and he received assignment to Parris Island as a rifle instructor. After that, he was assigned to Quantico. He was promoted to sergeant in 1940.
During the attack on Pearl Harbor, Howard remained in the arms locker until the attack ended.
