pp. 53-75 Summary and Analysis
The murder of Christ: a re-run — Wilson meets Timothy Leary while Leary is doing his so-called Death of Mind road show. Leary plays a lot of games with Eastern types of public personas, trying to push the idea that LSD should be used for research. Wilson reflects that just as Dr. Wilhelm Reich is persecuted for promoting sex research, Leary is soon persecuted for promoting drug experimentation. Wilson thinks that many of the LSD scientists used to be respectable back in 1964, but this does not last. Leary is thrown into jail for possessing drugs, and goes through a series of adventures, ending with him in solitary confinement. Wilson considers it fascist that people such as Reich and Leary are persecuted for their beliefs.
