Summary

Coraline holds back tears as she explores the small, broom closet sized room in which her other mother has imprisoned her. Her hand comes in contact with a cold cheek and lips. A voice tells her to be quiet. A cold hand feels her face and Coraline is asked if she is alive. She asks for names but the voices say they remember their names. The children tell her they don’t even think about whether or not they are boys or girls. Caroline learns the children were left there by the other mother who stole their hearts, stole their souls, took their lives away and then forgot about them.
