Summary
Chapter 8:
The next day, Jack is too tired to focus at work, so Kneebone sends him to market to drop off some stools made in the shop. While there, he pauses as a shop that sells watches and other time pieces, attracted to the beautiful things and strangely aware of unusual voices coming from inside that no-one else seems to respond to – “Every-Day-Same-Day-Same-Time-Different-Day. Can’t Stop.” (57). He then watches a very rough, very careless thief steal a watch. To distract attention, the thief pretends HE has been robbed, and Jack flees. He is caught by a police officer who, when he searches Jack, is confused by the bandages around his chest (which Jack uses to compress his breasts).
