Rebecca Bloomwood
The main character in the novel, Becky is a financial journalist for Successful Saving magazine in London. In her twenties, Becky began writing for financial magazines after finishing school simply because no one else would hire her. Despite her obvious lack of care for the work that she does, Becky must have some type of handle on her job as she was recruited from another magazine to Successful Saving and has been working there for over a year.
Becky is flighty and irresponsible and has a spending problem. Unable to resist the many beautiful things she sees, Becky simply buys them, though she really has no need for them. Buying things on credit gets Becky into trouble, as the banks and credit card companies are beginning to call and send letters requesting payment on her accounts. Becky manages to fend them off with some creative excuses but...
