Summary

Chapter 12 is titled “Owen.” Owen realizes he should have immediately explained the situation to Auburn instead of letting her find out from Trey. When Auburn arrives, Owen hates that she hurries inside as if worried she might be seen at the door. She does not get close, but Owen also feels the emotional distance. She asks if he is an addict but admits his answer will not matter. Auburn says she cannot see Owen again because Lydia and Trey will “never trust me if they know I'm involved with you” (167). Owen feels stupid for not considering this before. Owen says this is his first arrest, that he does not use drugs, and warns that she should not trust Trey. When Auburn walks to the door, Owen rushes to kiss her.
