Summary

Part 3 is titled Dormancy. In Chapter 20, Maverick visits Dre's grave, noting it is isolated from the noise of the nearby highway. There is new grass growing on the grave which is decorated with lots of items, such as teddy bears and Andreanna's drawings. Maverick talks to Dre, saying Shawn is in jail and may never get out. P-Nut is trying to take charge, but the gang is in disarray. Maverick pledges to stop dealing drugs as soon as he can “get a regular job and get on my feet” (244). He can imagine Dre's disbelief. He is still working and sells enough drugs to “to make sure I ain't struggling” (244). He knows Faye would notice if he made too much money. Maverick collapses in a moment of grief. He continues to talk, saying he and King are no longer close. He is not speaking...
