Letters 62-67 Summary

Nettie tells Celie how busy her days are. She teaches school to the Olinka children, but Olivia is the only girl in school there. The Olinka do not believe in educating their girls, as they believe a woman only becomes something through her husband. They look at Nettie with pity, because she is not married, and Adam is the only boy in school that will talk to Olivia.

Olivia plays with an Olinka girl, Tashi, after school. Tashi does her chores at home quickly so that she can play with Olivia, who teaches her much of what she knows. The girls are as thick as thieves. Olivia is confused, because they often tell her she will be a chief's wife, and she asks Nettie why they tell her that.
