Finale Summary
In the play's final sequence, the ladies share a poem about going through life feeling as though something was missing. What's missing is not physical comfort, but spiritual comfort. It is not the weight of a man's body, not the caress of a mother's hands, but "the holiness of myself released." The lady in red tells how she discovered holiness by helping another troubled woman. She stayed up all night and watched the sunrise with her. In this experience, the lady in red found God in herself as she found God in the other woman. The other ladies repeat the lady in red's last words and join in an intense dance of joy started by the lady in blue.
