Aidan
Aidan is one of the central characters in the story, and the narrative follows his perspective closely. Aidan first meets Pauline when his older brother, Declan, drives him home one night. After the drive, Aidan has a number of subsequent encounters with Pauline where the slowly get to know more about each other. Aidan is clearly intrigued by Pauline, but is also confused by her erratic and unpredictable behavior. He cannot help feeling drawn to her, but he also struggles to understand how she might feel about him. Aidan is unsure where is life is going; he works in a hotel and his mother – with whom he was very close – recently passed away. By the end of the story, it does not seem as though much of Aidan's life has changed, although his encounters with Pauline have clearly affected him.
