Chapters 41-44 Summary
Chapter 41. Karrin and Dresden head south, weaving in and out of traffic, headed for the ruins of the former steel mills. Dresden fights off the hunt with his magical will. When he kills one of the hounds, he realizes that it was a human wearing a mask. The Hunt continues to bear down on them. When Dresden realizes they aren't fazed much by magic, he pulls out his gun and shoots at them, wounding the Erlking. They enter the mill grounds, and Dresden manages to pull Kringle from his mount. They fight. Dresden bests Kringle, surrounded by the Hunters, and recites the motto of the Hunt: "Join, hide, or die." Dresden tells the assembled that they must join him instead. The faerie power behind the Hunt extends to Karrin and Dresden on her motorcycle. Kringle asks what they will be hunting...
