Structure
The structure of Code Girls is two-fold. Mundy provides detailed historical accounting of the field of cryptanalysis, as well as personal narrative of one of the code girls in particular, Dot Braden. In starting the work with Dot Braden’s recruitment to work in the field of cryptanalysis, Mundy allows her audience to get a more person perspective of the life of a code girl. Hence the audience becomes invested in the fates of the Code Girls. The timeline is not linear, as Mundy opens with the excitement of the delivery of “the secret letters” in the year 1941. Doing this builds anticipation as the audience is eager to discover what the letters contain. After describing the confidential letters, Mundy opens Chapter One describing Dot Braden’s job offer from the U.S. Army Signal Intelligence Service in September 1942.
