Summary
In Chapter 30, Clytemnestra and Aegisthus begin an affair. Clytemnestra describes feeling extremely loved by Aegisthus. The two begin a sexual relationship. Clytemnestra tells her son Orestes about their relationship, but tells him she has only slept with him “to control him better.” Orestes says she trusts her and will not question her. Leon, however, believes that Aegisthus cannot be trusted since he killed his uncle in the coup of Mycenae that ousted Agamemnon and Menelaus. Orestes comes to Clytemnestra a few days later informing her of a potential coup plot that the Mycenaean elders have been talking about. Clytemnestra executes them in response.
In Chapter 31, Leon rebukes Clytemnestra for her relationship with Aegisthus and the murder of the elders. Leon storms out and leaves the castle. Soon after, Electra confronts Clytemnestra about her relationship with Aegisthus, and blames her for Leon leaving. The...
