Act 1, Scene 2 Summary
In an open field away from the house, Clive struggles to convince Mrs. Saunders to have sex with him. She resists, proclaiming her desire for independence, but when he dives beneath her skirt and performs oral sex on her, she gives in.
The rest of the family soon arrives to begin the Christmas picnic. As Betty and Maud unpack the food, and as Harry, Edward and Victoria play, Clive opens champagne and deliberately spills some on his trousers to conceal evidence of the orgasm he had with Mrs. Saunders. Ellen and Betty play catch with a ball from the hamper but are quickly ordered by Edward to stop, because they can't throw or catch; the implication is that they can't do so because they are women. Edward tries to play catch with Harry and Clive but is no better than Betty...
