The Argos

The Argos is the spaceship on which Konstance lives. She is one of 86 people who live on board. Sixty of the inhabitants were born on the Argos, while the remaining 23 are old enough to remember life on Earth. As a child, Konstance understands that she and her fellow Argos people are traveling for a new planet, Beta Oph2. After Earth became too dangerous, the crew members allegedly constructed the ship and left the home planet.

Life on the Argos is run by one computer, a machine the inhabitants have named Sybil. Sybil is all around, can hear everything the inhabitants say and oversees everything they do. She is supposedly the foremost authority on all human life and civilization.

Konstance begins to doubt Sybil's intelligence and authority after spending months locked inside Vault One. Konstance eventually learns that the Argos is not in space at all, and has...
