Summary
In Part III, Chapter 18, Sean still could not find a job. Meanwhile, he served community service at a chapel in Turf Lodge.
Sean spent Christmas with his family. When his brothers went out without him, Sean’s mom sympathized with him.
That night, several people got sick and died after taking “a bad batch of pills” (207). Anthony was hospitalized. Seeing his mom shaken, Sean sat in bed with her. She admitted she had dreams about Sean’s dad. She thought the dreams made her a bad mom. Sean admitted he dreamt about him too.
In Chapter 19, Sean wrote a story inspired by what happened to Anthony at Christmas. He reread it at a coffee shop. He saw a girl reading a book, hoping she would notice him. “Nothing came of it” (212).
