Summary

In Part I, Chapter 1, Sean punched a guy in the face at a party. He did not realize what he was doing until the guy was on the ground and people started yelling. A cop appeared, took Sean’s name, and told him to go home.

It was five in the morning when Sean got home (3). His best friend and roommate Ryan was still up. They watched The Shawshank Redemption together.

Men came to the door the next morning. Sean and Ryan did not answer. While cleaning, Sean noticed new graffiti over Casement Park.

Sean boiled water to wash his hair in the sink. The flat had been unheated since the landlord ran off to Spain, “leaving a load of properties to be repossessed” (6). Studying himself in the mirror, Sean knew he had “to get out” (6).
