Self Identity
An individual usually bases their self identity on appearance and other people's reactions to them. Therefore, maintaining self identity is fluid in that it changes as the perception of the individual changes. Tessa is the main example of this theme because she is able to take on the identity of any other person, living or dead. The change includes appearance and feelings. Tessa has access to the thoughts and memories of the person she becomes, and those changes impact her sense of self.
As Tessa first begins to learn about her special power, she worries because she is not confident about her own identity, especially after taking on another person's persona.
