Summary

In Chapter 6, "Strange Earth,” Jem and Will enter the Dark House and find Miranda. She calls them Nephilim and warns them that they will die. Jem and Will discover she is a “gadget” (131) rather than human. Meanwhile, Tessa and Jessie walk in the park. Jessie talks in disparaging tones about everyone at the Institute, then says she will get access to her family fortune in a few months when she turns 18. She does not want to be a Shadowhunter but she cannot live on her own, and she proposes that Tessa live with her, posing as a cousin from America. She believes they will both marry quickly.
