Frank

Frank is a main character in the novel who is married to Cleo. He views himself as a self-made man who worked his way up the ladder of the advertising industry, and has found success and wealth. Frank often denies his privilege, but charms many with his engaging storytelling and life- of-the-party attitude. In addition to his professional side, Frank can be playful and boyish, offsetting his middle age.

Learning from his mother, Frank distances himself from his emotions and drinks heavily to numb any discomfort. Frank normalizes his behavior since he is able to properly do his job—which he places on a higher pedestal than his wife. He is originally enamored with Cleo and is obsessed with gaining her approval.
