Summary
Chapter 1, "Quite a Ways to Go" (1) begins with protagonist William “Scoob” Lamar arriving in Alabama with his grandmother. G'ma arrived in an RV earlier in the day and invited Scoob on a road trip. He already had a suitcase packed because he and his father had been planning to go on vacation before Scoob got in trouble at school. He jumped at the chance to take a trip with G'ma, particularly as it meant evading his father's strict rules and punishment for misbehavior, though he is a little concerned that she sold her house so suddenly. He is also sad because he has many fond memories of spending time in her house.
