Summary
This section includes five chapters. The first is titled, “The Four Corners of the World,” and starts with Clayton waking up to return to school after a week away. When he enters the classroom he sees his seat, next to the lizard’s cage. That morning the class sings the song “You Are My Sunshine” but Clayton neither sings along nor plays his blues harp (38). After recess the teacher tells them they are going to read The Four Corners of the World. He asks the teacher if he can read something else, and that he does not want to read this book again. She tells him no. She starts to talk about the book and writes words and vocabulary on the board - including “wolf pack” (40). They pass out the book and start reading...
