Point of View

Most of the novel Class Mom is told in the first person, through the eyes of class mom Jen Dixon. Jen is a reliable narrator who, thanks to her honesty about her own shortcomings and struggles, is a sympathetic protagonist. While there are many characters who Jen does not trust at the beginning of the school year -- and actually somewhat detests -- the reader's attitude towards those other characters softens as Jen's own attitude softens throughout the year.

There are regular breaks in the text, separated from the main text by literal boxes, that share the full transcripts of emails sent to and from and among the different parents in the class. Each new email includes header information that would appear in a real-life email. For instance:
