Summary
Page 149 switches to Camino’s perspective, with the subtitle “Nineteen Days After” (149). Camino explains how she has not talked to El Cero in a long time, and sees him watching her from the trees. She hopes to see Vira Lata soon. She thinks about how “I am not a mourning girl. I am not a grieving girl,” saying all the things she is, but wants to not be (150). After she is done swimming, he comes out of the trees and approaches her. He offers her a ride and grabs her wrist. She snatches her arm away from him as her cell phone rings. It is Tia, telling her she has news of her fathers’ remains, and that they are bringing him home. Camino tells El Cero she has nothing to give him, and to forget it.
