Summary
At the beginning of Chapter 7, Kolya brought Lev to the home of his friend, Sonya Ivanovna. She felt sorry for Lev since his apartment was recently burned down and referred to her place as his home for him to stay at for as long as he needed. She was very skinny from starvation. Surgeons and nurses also were staying at her home. Kolya offered them library candy, and conversation ensued. During the conversation, Kolya was writing in his journal. A surgeon named Timofei said that he had heard there had been survivors from Lev's apartment. After someone said that the Germans were about to take Moscow, Kolya rejoined the conversation to say that would not happen.
