Summary

Clary and Jace immediately begin arguing over Clary’s decision to come to Idris. Jace cuts Clary off each time she begins to reveal too much about her special abilities. However, Jace cuts her off by saying cruel things designed to make her want to go back to New York. Clary does not understand Jace’s cruelty. She quickly leaves the house. Sebastian follows Clary and offers to walk her home. Clary accepts because she is already lost and does not know her way. Sebastian and Clary talk about the Circle and their own childhoods. Clary reluctantly tells Sebastian about her mother and her desire to find Ragnor Fell. They part ways, and Clary slips back into Amatis’s house, only to find Amatis waiting for her.
