Summary

Clary is nervous as Luke escorts her to the Institute so that she can travel to Alicante with the Lightwoods. Clary’s nervousness is forgotten when she arrives at the Institute and finds it abandoned. Out in the garden, Clary and Luke find Magnus Bane standing among what appears to be a small battlefield. Magnus explains what happened. Clary goes to the place where Magnus made his portal and decides that she has to go to Alicante no matter what Jace’s plans. Clary uses her skill to create new runes to make a portal of her own. As she is about to step through, Luke finds her. He tries to stop her by grabbing her arm, but he is pulled through the portal with her.
