Summary
Vivian and Frank become good friends. They share everything about each other and Vivian feels for the first time that she can be open and honest with a man about her experiences. They spend time together usually by walking through various parts of New York at nighttime when Frank cannot sleep. The only neighborhood they do not visit is Frank's own in South Brooklyn, as Vivian sees that as a sacred place that is just for him and his family. Frank tells Vivian about his wife, Rosella, who is also from the neighborhood. They are still married but since the war Frank has distanced himself in an effort not to let his PTSD affect his wife and daughter, Angela.
Vivian shares an anecdote about one of her afternoons with Frank. He calls her and asks to pick her up, then drives to Floyd...
