Summary
As Vivian and Peg continue working at the Navy yard, the war in Europe drags on. One day, Vivian hears that her brother, Walter, has died after his aircraft carrier was bombed by Japanese soldiers. Vivian goes home briefly to help her parents cope with the news, but it is clear that her presence simply reminds them of Walter. The war eventually ends shortly after Walter dies, and Aunt Peg asks Vivian if she wants to go to the pier and welcome home American soldiers returning from Europe. Vivian goes, and a soldier grabs her and kisses her much like the famous photo taken on the same day in Times Square. Immediately, VIvian thinks of Walter and everyone lost during the war and she begins to cry.
Down the road, Marjorie Lowtsky approaches Vivian with the idea to open up a bridal shop...
