Mark of the Wanderer
Mark of the Wanderer, also known as the Curse of Cain, is a mark and covenant that has been placed upon Simon. Originally given to Cain after slaying his brother, Abel, Cain was forced to wander the Earth as a marked man for his crime. He would have to live with his guilt and will be unable to find a home. Anyone who attempted to kill him, however, was killed in turn by God. Now that Simon bears the Mark, anyone who harms Simon will draw the wrath of God. Several people are destroyed in the novel when they do attempt to harm Simon, including Lilith. Simon, trapped between the vampire and human worlds, feels as if he himself cannot find a home.
