Chapters 7, 8, and 9 Summary
In Chapter 7, Madame Dorothea invites Jace and Clary into her apartment. Clary notices the books, which Jace dismiss as meaningless drivel that she keeps around to impress the mundanes who don't know any better. Clary argues that just because Dorothea does not do the same kind of magic as Jace, that it doesn't make it fake. Jace explains to her the difference in magic and what shadowhunters do. Jace explains the true meanings of the shadowhunter marks. Dorothea makes them tea and invites them into the parlor. She claims to be the daughter of a witch, which Jace immediately declares is impossible. Witches and warlocks, being half human and half demon, are infertile.
