Summary
The girl began delivering Dr. von Leinsdorf's "groceries two or three times a week" (52). He left her chocolates and a note as payment.
Whenever she was in his apartment, she tried studying the space as if she were not in it. Once, while there with him, she asked if he had so many rocks because he was a collector. He explained that they were "connected with [his] work" (52).
The next time they were in the apartment together, the girl "watched him grinding coffee" (52). She had never seen it done this way before. When she explained the way she was accustomed to preparing and drinking coffee, he said that was not "real coffee" (53).
