Book Two, Chapter Nine - Chapter Fourteen Summary
In Chapter Nine, Erland and his assistants are marveling about Cinder's robotic makeup, when Erland realizes her natural body defenses are winning against the plague microbes. Erland asks the medbot to take another blood sample, but is watching as her body fights, and wins, against the disease. Erland asks that Cinder also be untied, and taken to another room.
In Chapter Ten, Cinder is taken to another exam room, where she finds her boots, gloves, and personal belongings. Her restraints are also released. When Erland arrives and asks to talk with her, Cinder is furious, but when she goes to attack him, she finds herself relenting, seeing him instead as a sad, old man. She is surprised when her lie detector goes off, since Erland does not say anything. Erland, smiling...
