Badagry
Badagry is a town a few miles west of Lagos. It is the cherished refuge of Duyole Pitan-Payen, who celebrates his ambassadorship with a public feast there. The town is contrasted with the corruption and entropy of Lagos, despite being so near the megalopolis. Gumchi represents fidelity to one’s values and purity of aspiration for Menka and for his blood brother, Duyole Pitan-Payne. Inversely, it represents the quest for earthly dominance pursued by Farodion, who wishes to situate a spiritual pilgrimage site there.
