Chapters 3 - 4 Summary
Asking about transportation to Cutter Gap, Christy discovers that the only person in El Pano who travels routinely to the Cove is the mailman, Mr. Pentland. In keeping with her impetuous nature, Christy corners Mr. Pentland at the general store and convinces him to take her with him on his mail rounds. She promises that she will not hold him up. True to her word, Christy has the gumption to work hard to keep up with Mr. Pentland. At first he starts off on a fast pace, but once he sees how hard Christy is trying, he slows down a bit to allow her to keep up with him. As Mr. Pentland delivers his first letter, Christy is astounded to realize that he only has seven letters to deliver, and his determination to do his job well makes an impression on...
