Summary
In Chapter 2, Christopher’s mother explains to her children that when Mrs. Crimmins fetches them, they leave the room and never return to see her or each other. Her eyes fill with tears as she explains that Mrs. Crimmins had taken many of her babies over the years. Despite her sadness, their mother said that it was proper because every mouse must leave home to pursue his own destiny. She said they would either go to a pet shop or to a medical laboratory. She said it would be much better to go to a pet shop and explained that they were very good pets because they were cute and smart. Anna asked if two or more of them might go to the same home. Their mother said that most people only buy one at a time...
