Summary

In Chapter 1, "At Mrs. Crimmins’s Place,"Christopher tells the story of his birth in Mrs. Crimmins’ home. She was a breeder of white mice. Christopher recalled his first memories of learning he was a white mouse. When he was finally able to open his eyes, he saw that he had three brothers and a sister. Their mother told them that when they were six or seven weeks old, Mrs. Crimmins would fetch them. Christopher asked if she liked Mrs. Crimmins, but his mother had to think about the answer. Finally, she said she thought Mrs. Crimmins was somewhere in between nice and mean.
