Tiny
Tiny is the first person narrator and main character of the novel. At the start of the novel, two weeks after Tiny has a dream about having sex with her owl-lover, she discovers that she is pregnant. Although her husband is delighted by the news, Tiny is worried. She tries to tell her husband that the baby will not be an ordinary baby. The baby will not look or behave like him. Rather, she repeatedly tells him, the baby is an owl-baby.
The first few times that Tiny tells her husband about their child’s condition, her husband dismisses her. He assures her this fantasy is just “jitters” or “hormones” (7). However, the more frequently that Tiny talks about the baby being an owl, the more frustrated and angry her husband becomes. He fears that such fantasies are evidence that Tiny’s dreamer tendencies are returning.
