Point of View
Sloane’s perspective colors almost everything that readers access, but the third person narration keeps us at a bit of a distance. Because she is in so much pain because of the trauma of her youth and her post-traumatic-stress-disorder, there is a practicality to keeping the narration in third person, as it allows the novel to breathe a bit and not get too stifled with her emotions, though they do color most of what we are presented with. Sloane is the center of her own world and she spends the most time thinking about herself, to the point where basic facts about her best friends in the entire world are left mysterious because of her lack of insight and curiosity into their inner lives.
