Wahoo Cray
Wahoo Cray, a boy about thirteen years old, is the main character of "Chomp." His parents are Mickey and Susan, an animal wrangler and a language instructor, and they live together in southern Florida. The story is told primarily from Wahoo's point of view. Wahoo is named, to his embarrassment, after the wrestler and football player Wahoo McDaniel. Wahoo plans to change his name when he is old enough. He is missing one thumb. Alice the alligator, one of his father's many animals, bit it off by accident when Wahoo was showing off for a girl during Alice's feeding time. Wahoo is a mild-mannered and thoughtful boy. He cannot even put a face to the evil in his nightmares when he learns that his friend, Tuna, has been abused by her own father.
