Victor Mancini
Victor is the narrator and main character of the novel. He seems to lack a lot of self-confidence and from the very beginning says the reader will not like his character. However, his ideas about himself do not correspond with who he really is and Palahniuk suggests he is more of an attention seeker than a bad person. This search for attention comes from his childhood when he moved between foster parents while his mother was either in jail or in a mental asylum. The only time he saw his mother was on the occasions she kidnapped him. Victor demonstrates his self-hatred when he reflects back to these times, referring to his younger self as an idiot.
